Discover the artistry behind Flowers on the Mill, a beloved floral studio nestled on the picturesque New South Wales South Coast. Caroline Miller, the creative force behind Flowers on the Mill, has cultivated a unique approach to floristry that blends nature’s beauty with personal connections. With a passion for flowers that dates back to her youth, Caroline’s journey into floristry has been marked by dedication, creativity, and a deep connection to her coastal roots. We were grateful to collaborate with Caroline, who brought her expert floral styling skills to our new Faux Floral Collection. In this blog, you’ll learn about Caroline’s floristry practice and discover how to create stunning artificial flower arrangements.
Caroline’s journey into floristry began at a young age, working in a local flower shop where she honed her skills and passion. After a few years working for a florist in Sydney, she found herself yearning for the serenity and charm of her hometown. Moving back to the South Coast, Caroline set up her own flower studio in her great uncle’s house, where the two of them spend their days working side by side. With her great uncle soon turning 100, the studio serves as a beautiful blend of family, nature, and artistry—a place where flowers, stories, and memories come to life.
In collaboration with Few & Far, Caroline has designed an exquisite new range of faux flower & botanical arrangements that draw inspiration from the natural textures and vibrant colours of the botanicals themselves. “I take a lot of inspiration from the flowers,” Caroline shares. “The colours and textures really guide the creative process. From soft pinks to deep reds, and pops of bright orange, I love how these colours come together to form a cohesive and fresh design.”
When designing these arrangements, Caroline’s attention to detail shines through, as she carefully selects foliage or florals that complement one another, creating a harmonious and timeless aesthetic. In the Antique Blush Arrangement, Caroline pairs our new Cinder Vase—featuring a soft metallic sheen—with pink and purple hydrangeas as the foundation. Her faux floral arrangements reflect a deep connection to nature and a commitment to bringing the beauty of flowers into homes, no matter the season.
Colour and texture play a significant role in Caroline’s floral arrangements, and she often works within a cohesive palette to evoke a specific mood or feeling. “I love combining soft pinks and reds, with the occasional pop of orange,” Caroline explains. “I also work with lots of white flowers paired with textural greenery to bring depth and interest to the designs.” Her approach to selecting colours ensures that each arrangement is visually striking, yet balanced, creating a sense of warmth and beauty in any space.
The Ember Tide Bouquet strikes a perfect balance of warmth and contrast, blending vibrant red dahlias and burnt-orange roses with a bold pop of deep blue. Sculptural persimmon sprays, delicate peach poppies, and pink orchids add movement and softness, while blue hydrangea provides grounding contrast. Ideal for tall, earthy vases like the Large Ravine Vase, this arrangement's dynamic textures and rich palette create a striking focal point in any space.
When it comes to pairing florals with ceramics, Caroline emphasises the importance of a statement vase. “A beautiful vase can be just as important as the flowers themselves,” she says. “With the right vase, you don’t need a huge number of flowers. A few stunning stems can transform a space and make a bold statement.” This philosophy is at the heart of her collaboration with Few & Far, where elegant floral arrangements—like the Modern Sculpture arrangement—are paired with the thoughtfully curated Magma Vase to create stunning focal points in any space. The Verdant Nostalgia Arrangement is a celebration of green—a vibrant colour story that evokes a sense of both nature's quiet strength and delicate movement. Layered foliage in every imaginable shade of green builds a lush, textured foundation. The rich depth of emerald and sage leaf sprays provides a soothing contrast, while sculptural lotus pods extend in organic patterns, introducing rhythm and fluidity to the composition. Cascading berry sprays gently curve downward, infusing a sense of flow and natural movement into the piece.
Styled in a deep reddish-brown Lotus vase, the earthy tones of the vessel create a striking contrast with the tonal greens of the arrangement, amplifying the nostalgia yet contemporary feel of the bouquet. The interplay of sculptural forms and textured greenery turns the Verdant Nostalgia Arrangement into an elevated yet understated statement. It’s a soft, natural expression of beauty that fits seamlessly into any space, offering a timeless touch that feels both grounded and effortlessly stylish.
Building on the natural textures and movement we’ve explored, the Vintage Valentine Arrangement effortlessly combines sculptural form with soft, clustered blooms. Fig branch sprays stretch outward, creating contrast against the fullness of white and blue Hydrangeas, while hanging Green Berry sprays add depth and movement, their gentle drape enhancing the arrangement’s layered, organic feel. Styled in a vintage Shanxi glazed pot, this bouquet blends history and craftsmanship, highlighting the contrast between structured branches and delicate blooms. At Few & Far, we celebrate mixing the old with the new, perfectly reflected in our Collected. Curated. Crafted Collection. With its bold yet refined presence, the Vintage Valentine serves as a timeless focal point that feels both nostalgic and contemporary—ideal for any space.
The Vivid Violet Arrangement strikes a perfect balance between bold colour contrasts and structured composition, bringing a sense of dynamic elegance to any room. This striking bouquet combines lush foliage and sculptural lotus pods that form a grounded base, while burgundy dahlias, red freesia, and pink echinacea infuse warmth and fluidity into the design. Deep purple-blue hydrangeas and branching elements weave through the arrangement, creating layers of depth and contrast that enhance its visual impact. Styled in the tall Tidal Vase, the cool and warm tones interact seamlessly, making the Vivid Violet Arrangement a captivating focal point for any space. Its carefully curated blend of form and colour adds texture and richness to interiors, offering a bold yet balanced statement that elevates the atmosphere of your home.
If you’re looking for a sculptural centrepiece that captures the warmth and texture of autumn, the Harvest Glow Arrangement paired with the Zinnia Vase, is the perfect choice. Featuring a striking persimmon spray with vibrant orange fruit and branching forms, this bouquet creates an organic silhouette that feels both natural and intentional. Soft pink orchids drape elegantly, offering a delicate contrast to the bold structure, while red freesia adds a lively energy and Echinacea brings depth with its spiky centers. The harmonious blend of pinks, lilacs, and burnt oranges creates a bold yet balanced palette. Styled in a sculptural reeded burgundy vase, this arrangement effortlessly balances fluid floral forms with a structured base. With the flexibility of faux florals, each stem can be shaped to evolve with its surroundings, making it the perfect seasonal statement piece to bring warmth and movement to any interior.
As you can see from the how-to videos on this page, Caroline's magic touch brings floral styling to life in ways that complement any interior style. Each arrangement has been carefully curated with its own distinct colour palette, making it easy to find the perfect match for your space. One of our favourites, the Sienna Bloom Bouquet, is a sculptural masterpiece that blends rich textures with organic movement. Anchored by deep burgundy Hydrangea, its layered petals create depth and contrast against the warm, neutral palette. Wisps of Cherry Blossoms add an airy softness, their beige tones merging seamlessly with the muted ochres and burnt oranges of Ranunculus. A sculptural branch adds a raw, organic element, elevating the arrangement’s beauty. Designed to complement textured ceramic vases, the Sienna Bloom Bouquet is a refined statement piece, bringing warmth, contrast, and sculptural elegance to any interior.
