When did you decide you wanted to be a stylist?

I knew I wanted to be a stylist when I was a child. I used to constantly be moving things around in my room instead of having my afternoon nap! My mother was a natural at home decorating and so I think this also influenced me as I was growing up.

Where do you start when thinking about redesigning a room?

I like to confirm the overall colour scheme and get clear about how the space is used. The most important thing is understanding the feeling my client wants to achieve in the space.

What are common design mistakes you see people make in styling a room or home?

Choosing the wrong size or configuration of furniture and overcrowding a space.

What is a design rule / philosophy you live by?

Keep it simple - less is often more!  Allow space for items to shine.

What makes "good" interior design?

This is always very personal, but in general it's about ensuring all the elements feel balanced and united in the space.

What inspires you in your designs?

I love helping my clients create a more connected and functional home that is truly reflective of their personal style.

What is an essential piece of furniture or decor that everyone should have in their living room?

A comfortable sofa layered with textured squishy cushions!

What key questions do you ask a client before styling their home?

Who lives there? How do they use the space? How do they want to feel in the space? For instance do they want to feel calm and restful, or energised and invigorated.

How would you describe your personal style or aesthetic?

Refined simplicity meets delicate detailing. My style is down to earth and relaxed, and I always love adding elements from nature.

What advice would you give someone looking to start a career as an interior stylist?

Just go for it! For many creatives, the ability to see things like a stylist often comes naturally and studying gave me the confidence to move forward and start a career doing something that I'm passionate about. I studied several colour and design courses with the International School of Colour & Design prior to completing a Diploma of Interior Design and Decoration.

What are you most passionate about when styling peoples homes?

Offering a very personal experience, providing inspiration and guidance and ultimately a renewed sense of clarity and confidence for my clients.
