Our hometown of Huskisson is a beautiful town with a rich shipbuilding history, located on the shores of Jervis Bay Martine Park within the Shoalhaven region. With crystal blue waters, the whitest of sandy beaches, the bay is full of abundant marine life, from Bottlenose dolphins, fur seals, penguins and weedy sea dragons. Huskisson is the main hub for shopping, eating and leisure on Jervis Bay. With an easy 2.5hr drive to Huskisson from Sydney and Canberra it's the place to visit, unwind and breathe in the salty air!
This blog, Jervis Bay Activites, like our Taste Of Huskisson blog is brought to you by the store manager of our Few and Far Huskisson store, Natalie, who was our first ever employee! Natalie has been with Few and Far for 7 years now and has a broad range of knowledge across our business and of the local area - she's a great person to ask for tips if you are visiting and would like to explore the area like a local! See below for Natalie's top tips!

Dolphin Cruises
We are lucky to have 2 cruise operators in Huskisson (Dolphin Watch Cruises and Jervis Bay Wild Cruises) that cater for all you needs in searching for the local Bottlenose Dolphins and numerous other sea life in Jervis Bay. From Eco tours, whale tours (May- November), multiple Dolphin tours with Seal colonies. Both companies have booking desks in the Main Street and operate from the local Husky Wharf.

Our historic town hall built in the 1913’s, converted, to a one screen, old school charm cinema. Movies have been screened here since the early 50’s. Showing all the latest flicks, you will be warmly welcomed, and with Adults prices at $11, it's well worth a visit or two! There is an online booking system, but you can also purchase tickets at the door along with the necessary movie snacks. The online timetable is updated every Wednesday for the coming week's screening times.

The Jervis Bay Maritime Museum features a plethora of renowned maritime artefacts, navigational and surveying instruments. The museum is home to the historic Lady Denman ferry which was built in Huskisson in 1911 and serviced the Sydney Harbour for over 60 years. Apart from the historic side of the museum, there is lots to do within its large recreation area. From visiting Laddie Timbery’s Bidjial Aboriginal arts & craft shed, feeding the fish in “The Pond” (great fun to do with the kids), walking among the mangroves 1.4km boardwalk to check out local bird species, soldier crabs, as well the flora and fauna. Local produce markets are held the first Saturday of the month. 10-3pm in winter and twilight hours of 3-7pm over the summer months.
Located 10kms from Huskisson is Booderee National Park. Firstly you need a park pass which is valid for 2 days, or you can purchase a yearly pass. There's so much to do in the park from visiting the many crystal clear, beautiful white sand beaches, bush walks, guided tours, birdwatching, boating, fishing, SUPing, whale watching, diving & snorkelling, walking around the Botanical Gardens, and the old historical heritage listed ruins like the Cape St George lighthouse. I recommend visiting the information centre to ask for maps and tips. I also highly recommend packing a picnic lunch to have at one of the beaches and spend the day taking in the beauty that Jervis Bay has to offer.
Hyams Beach
Hyams Beach is a Guinness World record holder for having the whitest sand in the world. It is a popular destination for holidaymakers!! The beach can get very crowded over the peak/summer seasons and at these times the one road in can be closed to the public. A little locals trick is to park the car at Greenfields Beach (Vincentia) and do the White Sands Walk to Chinamans Beach. Personally, I think it is better than Hyams. It is a beautiful easy walk along the coastline, approx 2kms. Hyams beach is easily accessed from Chinamans Beach. If you do decide to drive to Hyams, as you head down into the village be sure to stop in at the Hyams Beach Store & Cafe. They offer casual dining, are open daily with freshly baked pastries, cakes to healthy salads, tarts and a full main meal menu. Take away is available.
Shopping
Husky has a great range of speciality shops (ours included!) along the Main street. You will be covered with a great range of homewares, clothing, surf accessories and the like. All within easy walking distance from one end to the other. Monthly markets are held on the Husky Soccer fields each 2nd Sunday of the month.

"Bike Track Walk"
Locally named, this walk starts at the Husky wharf and heads towards Vincentia. An easy walk/ride that is accessible to those of varying abilities, prams and bikes - hugs the coastline towards one of last beaches of Vincentia - Plantation Point. Anytime of the day you will pass people enjoying this walk. And on the occasion, you could be met by the local dolphins frolicking along the shore. Along the walk are multiple play parks/swings for the kids and BBQ/Picnic facilities to enjoy. There is easy access to many of the beaches from the track if you would prefer to walk on the  white sand. The round trip is approx 14kms.
