Ok, so you remember me telling you about those beautiful over-dyed vintage rugs from Anatolia, Turkey??? Well, Danny and I have a new shipment that has just arrived! And they are BEAUTIFUL!!!! We loved them so much we had to take 2 of them home! So, we only have 7 in the shop at the moment, however the fantastic news is that they can be ordered (the patchwork carpets can be custom sized!!!!) and delivery time is only 2 weeks! So basically, you can have any colour (heaps to choose from!) in any size (patchwork carpets). Or, if you would prefer an old vintage carpet over-dyed, rather than patchwork, you can have any colour – sizes in these are fixed, as they are only available in the sizes of the old carpets.
Prices vary, depending on size, however a carpet 2m x 3m will be approx $2700.
These carpets are a major trend right now, recently seen in Milan at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile fair in April. Each carpet is at least 50 years old and all handmade. The process involves the collection of unique or damaged carpets from Anatolia, Turkey, which are then put through a series of washes to extract most of the colour. The carpet is then re-dyed using natural pigments and washed again.
The finished effect after over-dying is unique to each carpet. The dye reacts differently depending on the original fibres. What makes them so beautiful is that the original pattern remains, still retaining the essence of its original design, with the over-dyed effect creating a solid colour with dimension. An old traditional carpet has now been given a new lease on life and has become a contemporary work of art.
We hope you love these carpets as much as we do! They have definitely added a new dimension to our dining and living rooms at home and every time we walk through the door we comment on how much we love our new rugs!
If you have any questions, or would like to see more colours, please do not hesitate to email or call us, we’d be more than happy to send you through some information.
Until next time (another exciting blog on our travels to Turkey!), keep warm, safe and happy!
